The Land of a Thousand Lakes

Not to be deterred by tales of vicious mosquitos, we finally made it to the Masurian Lake District in North East Poland. There was a long drive on Sunday 28th June, but as we'd had Paddy's air con refreshed before we set off from Scotland, it was the most pleasant place to be.

We stayed on a campsite, Siedlisko Rozynsk near Elk (pronounced Ewk in Polish as there is a line across the l - one of the nine special letters unique to Polish). It was amazing to be under the trees, it made it a few degrees cooler at least and we took advantage of the still hot evening sun to wash and dry our clothes.

We went for a lovely kayak on the lake. There were so many large dragonflies and beautiful water lilies. Amazingly we found somewhere in the Masurian Lake District without mosquitos and not even the really annoying buzzy bity flies at the lake we had stopped at the previous day. So ideal for lying out in the hammock.

Storks nesting on telegraph poles are a common sight in the area.
