Garry was not too keen on Tallinn ... something to do with the snooker club being closed on a Monday and none of the shops selling Stracciatella ice cream.
On Tuesday, we walked around the Telliskivi Creative District. It used to be an industrial area, but now it draws visitors for street art and craft beer. With relatively little development but very effective marketing, it has become a trendy spot and a number of corporate offices have located there. We then strolled through the cobbled streets of the medieval Old Town, which felt a bit like a theme park. Sorry to Tallinn; I’m sure some of my critical reaction is because we found it so expensive, Also, maybe we had a bit of capital city (and Old Town) fatigue, this being the third one we'd visited in 5 days. And, we had enjoyed Riga so much and unfortunately we were always going to compare.
I found the Town Hall Pharmacy a really interesting visit. It is the oldest pharmacy in Europe and part of it is a museum with medieval pharmacy parafanalia and information about herbal medicines, yet it is also still an actual pharmacy, selling modern medicines.
As we travelled back to our campsite, a short train ride to the suburbs, we found it fascinating that all of the houses (all detached, of individual design and of many colours) were surrounded and almost hidden by trees, so very different from Scotland's housing estates.
