Polar Steps
How to document and share our travels? There are many 'van lifers' posting on facebook and instagram and who have youtube channels. They find various sources of income from using these channels (e.g. selling advice, routes and books or getting freebies for promotion) which enable them to continue travelling and pursuing the lifestyle they love. It maybe something we do more of in the future, but for now I don't/didn't want to be engaging with social media too much. I feel it eats up your time (freedom) and through algorithms filtering what you see, controls your emotions and opinions (freedom of thought) and what's more, I feel you start seeing things through the eyes of what would look good as a photo/post rather than fully experiencing life in the moment. Never say never ... but using this website was a way of being a bit more independent from the power of US tech (in case one day I actually do feel compelled to delete all my facebook data). What we don't get is interaction, so we would love to read some comments, thoughts and ideas from you.
Many of the travelers we meet outside the UK use the Polar Steps app to record and share their travels. It produces maps of journeys taken with photos (and notes) attached to the stops along the way. I am updating our trip on the app daily so if you want to keep track of where we actually are, this would be a good way. I like to add friends to the app to get ideas for our future stops and journeys too. Here is the link:
