Campsites
This trip so far we have used campsites every night but one (we imagine that we will do more 'wild camping' in Scandinavia as we head north to more remote areas). We have been travelling a long way in a short time and really want to avoid the stress of arriving at a completely unknown place and driving around to find a safe spot to park. We have our own toilet facilities now, but a good campsite utility block is still a great pull. When visiting cities we have found campsites near public transport into town (this works really well - unless you miss the last bus/train back to the van).
I tend to look for campsites in advance, sometimes before the trip starts, or maybe a day or two before. The main source for us is the Park4Night app as it's good to read reviews before and get an idea of facilities and price. We have found some gems of campsites on there and discovered areas which were off our radar. The campsites we have stayed in have ranged in price from £15 to £40; the quality of the facilities, location and ambiance don't necessarily match the price.
Our first night in Poland was staying at a campsite (Camping Pod Lasam - costing 24 euros per night) near a small town called Bolkow in southwest Poland. Right in the middle of the countryside, this campsite had many different parts, many shelters with wash facilities, fire pits, play areas, a football pitch and even a swimming pool. You could have accommodated about 100 vans/motorhomes here (there were about 10 when we stayed and I wonder whether it gets busier when the Polish school holidays start). It would be ideal for a group of families to stay together - although I think the drive from the UK would be a little long.
