A haven among the trees

In the region of Hauts-de-France (Upper France), a few years ago we found a lovely farm campsite to stay. We were looking for somewhere to stay just a short journey off a main motorway across France to stop for one night. We loved it so much and wanted to return to enjoy the peace for 3 or 4 days. The campsite is basically a wooded area (it feels like an arboretum) with pitches between the trees. It is not a tourist area, the hamlet where it is located has no shops, there is bird song, a plethora of butterflies, there are chickens ... not much else. We enjoy cycling round the country lanes through the fields of corn and maize and poppies and laying in the sun among the flowers and birds, playing backgammon.

One of the most memorable things for me was the large willow tree and I was looking forward to hanging out under its drooping boughs. But on arrival we found the tree had fallen this March. Nothing stays the same. Other changes too ... a Belgium guy called Stan has taken over the campsite and has updated the facilities (still quite basic).
